The debate over the circumstances surrounding the assassination of the 35th American President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, has fuelled conspiracy theories for more than four decades. On the 46th anniversary of JFK's death, Discovery Channel and Discovery Civilization each present two back-to-back specials exploring the newest forensic and film evidence; the collision course between Jack Ruby and Lee Harvey Oswald; and the intoxicating combination of power, politics and conspiracy. On Sunday, November 22, Discovery Channel presents JFK: INSIDE THE TARGET CAR at 8 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT, followed by RUBY & OSWALD at 9 p.m. ET/10 p.m. PT. JFK: INSIDE THE TARGET CAR

Disputing more than four decades of conspiracy theories, this special employs cutting-edge forensics and film archives to prove that the only bullets fired at President Kennedy's motorcade came from the Texas School Book Depository. Using modern blood spatter analysis, sophisticated crime scene reconstruction and 3-D computer simulations, JFK: INSIDE THE TARGET CAR features an investigative team of experts and interviews with key players to reexamine that fateful day. Physical tests from a mock-up of the Dallas crime scene - including the depository, the "grassy knoll" and other nearby landmarks - confirm, by process of elimination, that the fatal shots were fired from the 6th floor of the depository. In addition to the physical environment, the team also constructs a virtual world using precise measurements of all of the angles, distances, plus wind speed and direction, to create a 3-D model of the crime scene. To animate it, the team reviewed video of the assassination captured by Abraham Zapruder, believed to be the most complete film of the shooting. While only two of the 486 Zapruder frames actually show Kennedy being shot, computer experts overlay these frames on the 3-D model and based on the spatter pattern can determine where the shots came from.

RUBY & OSWALD

After a lifetime of failure and drifting, Lee Harvey Oswald stepped into history on November 22, 1963, by killing President John F. Kennedy. But he never stood trial for the assassination: three days later, Jack Ruby avenged the death of the 35th President by gunning down Oswald on national television. This special explores Ruby's background, revealing striking parallels in the personalities of the two men and features rare videotape, unseen in 30 years, which shows how Ruby patiently stalked Oswald in the days after Kennedy's assassination.
